Natrapel 8 is a DEET replacement to repel insects
By Roger Phillips, McClatchy Newspapers

(MCT) - Which is worse: mosquitoes, ticks or DEET? I'm guessing you will say the bugs, but when you've just melted your plastic watch band with DEET, sometimes you have to wonder.

Natrapel 8

A new product, Natrapel 8, offers a DEET-free insect repellent that is similarly effective to DEET but not as smelly and won't ruin your sunglasses, camera lens, fishing line or other plastic items.

Natrapel's active ingredient is Picaridin, which is one of the best-selling active ingredients in repellents sold in Europe and Australia.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, "evidence indicates that Picaridin works very well, often comparable with DEET products of similar concentration." The "8" in Natrapel 8 stands for eight hours, which is how long one application is supposed to last.

Natrapel 8 comes in a 3.5-ounce bottle or in a container of wipes.

The cost is $5.99. Look for it in stores, or for more information log onto www.adventuremedicalkits.com.
