Hot Rods & Reels features celebrity fishing tournaments with A-list drivers, capped-off by wheelchair giveaways to two children in need. The two episodes take place on the in-field lakes at Homestead Miami Speedway and Daytona Speedway. The shows are shot and edited in the style of a competition, with a host interacting with the drivers out on the lake. The Homestead-Miami episode is hosted by Joe Thomas (host of
Ultimate Match Fishing); the Daytona episode is hosted by Mike Pawlawski (host of
Familiar Waters). The shows are full of great personal interactions with the biggest names in racing, like Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman, Martin Truex, Jr. and Richard Childress. There’s also touching moments during the wheelchair giveaways. The tournament benefits the
Darrell Gwynn Foundation, a charity built to support sufferers of spinal cord injuries, and
Speediatrics, a foundation that builds motorsports-themed pediatric hospital units.
