About Michael Waddell
If only one person could be chosen as the face of the modern hunting industry, that person would likely be Michael Waddell. A veritable superstar in the outdoor world, Michael combines hunting expertise with an easy-going personality.
While Michael continues to be one of the most successful hunters in the outdoor entertainment industry, he maintains a rare sense of humility, knowing that it was only a few years ago that he was a country boy from Georgia.
Growing up in the “deep country,” Michael was taught traditional family values and hunting was simply a way for him to spend more time with his father and grandfather in the fields near his childhood home. Hunting was never about the trophy animals or the glitz and glamour of working as a professional when Michael was growing up. Instead, it was about camaraderie and appreciating the special feeling that comes from spending quality time in the outdoors.
During his late teens, Michael began to work as a heating/cooling technician and competed in turkey calling competitions on the side. He continued to hunt and hone his calling skills, but it was largely a hobby more than it was an ambition. However, Michael began to win contest after contest and his notoriety spread throughout the area.
His success caught the attention of fellow Georgian Bill Jordan, who happened to own and operate the successful Realtree line of camouflage and hunting apparel. Immediately recognizing Michael’s talent, Bill offered him a position on his pro staff and allowed him to work on the production of Realtree’s hunting videos.
Michael worked tirelessly when given the chance to be in front of or behind the camera. He soaked up all the knowledge he could and befriended many of the producers who were responsible for the technical aspects of the videos.
One day, when he was talking with Bill and some of the producers, Michael came up with the idea of a new hunting show that was as much about the lifestyle behind hunting as it was the activity itself. That idea eventually led to Realtree Road Trips, which premiered on Outdoor Channel several years ago and launched Michael Waddell into the spotlight.
Now, after becoming one of the biggest stars in the industry, Michael continues to host Realtree Road Trips in addition to his new program, Gander Mountain’s We Live Outdoors. Michael’s charismatic personality, down-to-earth approach to television and passion for the outdoors continues to strike a chord with viewers across the country.
Waddell Hunting Whitetail

Celebrating We Live Outdoors
At Gander Mountain’s We Live Outdoors, we exist to celebrate the outdoor lifestyle. Let’s face it, no one every complains about having to go hunting. This year, we filmed 25 different trips someone wanted to go on. What follows is a look back at the best experiences from those adventures.
Look But Don't Touch
Most people think of pheasant hunting as a simple sport. Just get a good huntin’ dog and flush those roosters within gun range. Yes, that kind of hunting does happen, usually early in the season on untrained birds. During winters, out on the wide open prairie, shooting a pheasant is anything but simple.
Kansas Wind and Whitetails
Just like it was for Dorothy, Kansas is a place made for dreams. The big, open country provides better habitat for critters than it does for people. See a father and son that use the conditions at hand to put the stalk on a big Kansas whitetail.
Dune Buggies and Coyotes
The thing that makes Arizona special is space; wide-open desert space to the do the things you like to do. Join a group of guys who like to ride dune buggies and hunt coyotes.
Bird Hunting with Boys
Two dads, two dogs, and two boys with four days of prime pheasant hunting ahead of them. No moms or wives to tell them what to do. It’s the perfect father/son getaway in the Old West.
Boddington's Journeys
There are a lot of famous African safari hunters but none is more popular today than Colonel Craig Boddington. Join an American hero on a Namibia plains game hunt for kudu and spring buck.
Waddell Hunting Merriams’
Sometimes a successful hunt means simply finding the place where the most animals live. That’s what Michael Waddell does in this turkey-rich episode in South Dakota.
Field Testing
Waterfowl hunters have been complaining about steel since the day they banned lead. Now, there’s a new steel load out that may finally quiet the complaining. See a late-season goose hunt that has birds dropping out of the sky.
Waddell Ice Fishing?
Michael Waddell has been on a lot of adventures, but never to the frozen tundra of Northern Minnesota to ice fish. Check this trip out with him, country music star Rhett Akins, and song writer Dallas Davidson. You will see history in the making!
Guaranteed Trophy Deer
Where do big deer go when they just disappear? Most likely they go nocturnal and stay buried all day. Whatever the reason, trophy bucks earn their reputation as mysterious creatures, which is one reason we love to hunt ‘em.
777 Ranch Whitetail
When hunters practice quality deer management, good things happen. It takes a lot of patience and trust but the results speak for themselves. There is no better proof than at Triple Seven Ranch in Texas. You won’t believe what has happened to the herd there.
Set Up To Succeed
