Emmons Falls To Bronze

Final shot once again foils American rifle shooter

By: OutdoorChannel.com

There’s just something about Matt Emmons and final shots.

In London this week, his last shot cost him the silver medal, but he still won the bronze in the men’s 50-meter three-positions rifle competition.

Although he’s now won medals in the past three Olympics, Emmons, 31, of Mount Holly, N.J., has had disaster strike on his final shots, missing out of the gold in both 2004 and 2008. See his story here.

In all, the USA Shooting team brought home four medals. Kim Rhode kicked it off with a gold in women’s skeet, her record fifth medal in as many Olympic Game.s Vincent Hancock followed with a repeat gold in men’s skeet, shooting an Olympic record. Then Jamie Gray won gold in three-positions rifle.

Emmons was the fourth medalist on the team that is hoping to receive a boost from its medal haul and exposure. Most of the medalists appeared on NBC’s Today show and Rhode hit the late-night talk show circuit.

The team embarked to the Games just days after the movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colo., and have been besieged with questions about firearms.

USA Shooting executive director Robert Mitchell related to USA Today the type of stereotypical thought sport shooters battle. Several years ago he told a woman on an airplane what he does and she responded, “OK, you train people to hold up 7-11s.” See that story here.
