Alpena Summit Cup Filming Completed

2014 General Tire Summit Cup, Alpena, Mich., Aug. 26 - 31, 2013

Alpena Summit Cup Filming Completed
Angler Tim Horton of Jack Link's Major League Fishing

ALPENA, Mich.Jack Link's Major League Fishing announced today that it has wrapped up filming in Northern Michigan, and league Commissioner Don Rucks said that the just-completed competitive event will generate “the best show we’ve put on the air.”

During the event, called the General Tire Summit Cup, Major League Fishing anglers competed for six days on a variety of lakes near Alpena, Michigan, a Lake Huron shore city of 10,000. The filming included competition, as well as features on tips and techniques, and highlights of Northern Michigan attractions.

The Summit Cup will be televised beginning in January 2014 on Outdoor Channel, America’s Leader in Outdoor TV, as part of the network’s first quarter programming.

“I think viewers will be blown away when they see what our Major League Fishing anglers delivered in Alpena. I’m still shaking my head at some of the performances we saw,” Rucks said.

“The community of Alpena welcomed us in a truly special way. We had a tremendous week-plus in the region, but the highlight was the fishing, which was nothing short of amazing.”

Major League Fishing’s 24 anglers in Alpena included: Tommy Biffle, Mark Davis, Boyd Duckett, Brent Ehrler, Edwin Evers, Shaw Grigsby, Greg Hackney, Tim Horton, Randy Howell, Michael Iaconelli, Alton Jones, Kelly Jordon, Gary Klein, Bobby Lane, Jeff Kriet, Aaron Martens, Mike McClelland, Ish Monroe, Takahiro Omori, Jason Quinn, Dean Rojas, Skeet Reese, Kevin VanDam and Byron Velvick.

“I believe this is going to be our strongest event yet,” said Major League Fishing angler Gary Klein. “As usual, we had a fantastic field of anglers, and we were on water that was new to every one of us. Even Kevin, who is from Michigan, was not particularly familiar with the water in this part the state. It was a really great event. Our production crew is fantastic, and I’m really looking forward to seeing these shows.”

The Alpena General Tire Summit Cup is Major League Fishing’s fourth made-for-television event. The event marks the first time that Major League Fishing has utilized multiple bodies of water at a single event.

Last year's Chautauqua Lake Summit Cup champion, Denny Brauer, was scheduled to defend his title but had to withdraw for medical reasons. Brauer is scheduled to return for the next Major League Fishing event, the Challenge Cup, which will be filmed in the fall and aired on Outdoor Channel during the second quarter of 2014.
