No Fail Stew (Recipe)

  • 3 pounds venison, cut in one-inch chunks
  • 2 quarts water
  • 2 yellow onions, diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large can tomato sauce
  • 4 celery sticks, diced
  • 1/2 head cabbage, chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 dash liquid smoke
  • 1 dash taco sauce
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine (optional)
  • 1 package chicken gravy mix
  • 1 package brown gravy mix
  • 1 package Au Jus mix
  • 1 can corn
  • 1 green pepper, diced
  • 3 potatoes, diced
  • 3 carrots, diced


Place venison, water, onion, salt, garlic salt, pepper, tomato sauce, celery, and cabbage in pan or slow cooker, and cook 2-1/2 to 3 hours. Add tomatoes, soy sauce, liquid smoke, taco sauce, wine, all package mixes, corn, green pepper, and cook another 45 minutes. Add potatoes and carrots and cook an additional 20-30 minutes until potatoes are tender. Serves 6-8.
