Who's ready to escape into nature’s great unknown and ditch the hassle of chores and the frenzy of everyday life with a camping adventure? Summer nights are just as magical as they are fleeting and if you've never slept under a blanket of stars, next to a crackling campfire, you haven't lived at all. Sure, this is the 21st century and caveman camping isn't appealing to a majority of the masses, but "glamping" (glamour camping) leaves a lot to be desired, as well. So, today on The Revolution with Jim and Trav presented by Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel and World Fishing Network, the boys and their panel of outdoor pros have compiled a list of camping's best little secrets, or modern day hacks, that are guaranteed to make your next wilderness slumber a bit more enjoyable.

As hunters we spend a lot of time planning our hunts and focusing on strategies for success, however many times we don’t think as much about where we will kick up our boots on those overnight excursions. Often times the mark of good outdoorsman is how well they can sleep under the stars, and what their tolerance for discomfort truly is. Jim Shockey joins The Revolution this week and talks about how to make the great outdoors your home away from home.

Camping is referred to by many as “roughing it”, but Jim says that it’s all about your mindset. “You can live the lap of luxury while camping, you can live like a king in a palace.” Jim says that clearly that’s a figurative statement and not literal, but cites an experience in the Arctic hunting grizzly bear where it held true, and how a dilapidated cabin to seek shelter from a blizzard became his sanctuary.

Jim will also talk about many hunters’ tendency to over pack, and how it may stem from fear of the unknown. Leaving your fear at the door and forging ahead with awareness one step at a time can help you conquer your trepidations. Jim says he has virtually no fear anymore and he relives a hunt in Tanzania where he rested comfortably under mosquito nets with lions, hippos and cape buffalo close by, an experience that others in his group were far less comfortable with.

Jim Shockey is probably far more adventurous than most hunters and seeks out some of the most remote and challenging places in the world to pursue wild game, but he is far from finished. Jim says that experiences, unlike money and possessions, are the one and only thing that can never be taken from you and he fully intends on chasing adventure as long as it is out there.

The Revolution has a healthy obsession with Jim Shockey, and he may just be our ultimate outdoor idol. Don’t miss this week’s two-part interview with one of our favorite people in the outdoors!

It’s important to be proficient with your firearm. Whether it’s on the range, in the field, or heaven forbid in your home, you need to be able to hit your mark. The key to proficiency with a firearm is practice, shooting round after round until you master precision shooting. Ideally you want to train the same way and with the same equipment you would use in a real-life scenario. There are endless options when it comes to ammunition and the power of the almighty dollar can influence what choices we make. In an attempt to save a buck, sometimes we do ourselves a disservice by purchasing a low price, low performance and low quality ammunition to practice with. Remington’s Daniel Cox joins us this week to talk about a remedy for this problem. Remington’s High Terminal Performance (HTP) product line offers handgun shooters a premium ammunition at a reasonable price point. Daniel says the High Terminal Performance line offers the opportunity for gun owners to buy ammo that is great self-defense ammunition in boxes and quantities that are much larger than normal, but at an affordable price. The HTP line gives you the performance you need and you don’t have to feel bad about blowing through a box while you practice. You can now train with the same ammunition that you will rely on in a self-defense situation without breaking the bank. Tune in for an in-depth look at the Remington High Terminal Performance ammunition.

It takes a skilled outdoorsman and woodsman to be able to survive in the backcountry with little more than the shirt on your back. While many people would like to believe they are capable of living off the land and finding their way back to civilization from the middle of nowhere, the reality is that most people would rather watch someone else do it from the comfort of their couch. That someone else, is the Keefer brothers from Dropped seen on Outdoor Channel.

Chris and Casey Keefer will join The Revolution this week to talk about the new season of Dropped a series that follows the brothers as they are left in the Alaskan wilderness with nothing but the shirts on their backs and a firearm for protection. From there, the brothers have to navigate the north-country and its unpredictable weather in a race against time to make it to predetermined locations to retrieve caches of supplies before time runs out and they lose them for good. Chris and Casey say that this is the age of instant gratification and that we are tethered to a lifestyle that connects us to technology and modern conveniences. However, they believe there is something to be said for striking out for a while and going back to being self-reliant. Their mission is to inspire people to “Be Alive”. Find out more this week.

Raising the next generation of hunters means getting today’s youth actively involved in the outdoors. Jon and Gina Brunson, hosts of Addicted to the Outdoors on Outdoor Channel know exactly what it takes to raise outdoor oriented kids. They have six kids and actively include them in their excursions through the woods and waterways in pursuit of wild game. Jon and Gina say that the secret to a successful camping trip with kids is in the planning, something they have become very good at. They’ll then switch gears to the new season of Addicted to the Outdoors and fill viewers in on what to expect from what they describe as they best season yet. Listen now!
