The unofficial start of summer has commenced, and the outdoors is being flooded with eager outdoorsmen and women who are ready to recreate. Whether it is hunting, fishing, shooting, camping, outdoor cooking or more – the warm weather is beckoning and it’s time to get outside! Tune in to The Revolution this week as we highlight a mixed bag of outdoor pursuits with Melissa Bachman of Winchester Deadly Passion, Brian Bell, the Ford F-150 Marketing Manager, Jim Sammons, host of Extreme Kayak Fishing Challenge and Kevin Kolman, Head Grill Master at Weber. Catch it all on The Revolution with Jim and Trav, presented by Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel, World Fishing Network and MyOutdoorTV.

What do you do in the off-season to keep your shooting on point? Melissa Bachman, host of Winchester Deadly Passion on Sportsman Channel, doesn’t just sling arrows at stationary targets, she takes a more active approach – bowfishing. Melissa tells Jim and Trav that last year, she did a bowfishing tour going to Louisiana where she went offshore and took a tuna and shark with her bow and then came back inshore and did some redfishing. Then, Melissa headed to Texas for some alligator gar bowfishing action where she connected with a monster 7-foot alligator gar. She encourages everyone to get out and take advantage of whatever kind of bowfishing opportunities you have available in your area. Not only is it a lot of fun, but at the same time it will keep your shot on point and your muscles toned. If you already have a bow, Melissa tells Jim and Trav that they can be easily fitted with bowfishing equipment, you just need to know what you’re going after and adjust your setup accordingly. The 600-pound test line that she uses for big fish, isn’t required for something smaller like carp, so know what you are going after. If bowfishing is out of reach and you’re looking for other fun ways to get kids involved with archery shooting this summer, Melissa says to keep it fun and look for ways to create a reaction. She says that hanging water balloons from targets is a great way to get a reaction and keep kids’ interest as successful shots cause explosions. Making a competition out of shooting can get the whole family engaged, outdoors, off of electronics and doing something together. Make sure you tune in to Winchester Deadly Passion for some of this bowfishing action Melissa is talking about and much more!

You don’t need a big expensive boat to be able to access fishable waters, you can do it from a kayak. Jim Sammons has been kayak fishing for more than 20 years and is a pro. He is the host of “The Extreme Kayak Fishing Challenge with Jim Sammons” on Sportsman Channel, and he joins us this week to talk kayak fishing specifics. Jim says that kayak fishing requires the angler to stay on their game and keep their equipment organized as they are working from a much smaller platform than a boat offers. Once you hook up with a fish, he says if you let the fish tow you around, they’ll never get that much line on you. Plus, you can land pretty big fish on smaller equipment because the kayak itself acts as drag. Jim says that he can land a lot of fish faster from a kayak than a boat because he doesn’t have the weight of the boat holding him back. Instead you can wind yourself to the fish using the benefits of a tight drag and the ease in which a kayak moves through the water. When it comes to purchasing a kayak, Jim says that there is a wide variety with one for every application and person out there, you just have to decide what you’re going to use it for. He highlights the benefits of a more stable kayak for flats fishing to give you the ability to stand up. Conversely, Jim talks about his tendency to use faster paddling boats that tend to be less stable. Finally, he’ll talk about choosing your gear wisely when fishing from a kayak and how different length rods come with different advantages and disadvantages – longer rods allow you to reach around the bow if a fish changes direction, but a shorter rod allows you to keep the leverage point much closer to your body. Tune in!

America has a love affair with grilling, barbecuing and outdoor cooking. In fact, 75% of adults in the U.S. own a grill or smoker. My obsession with grilling and Weber grills led me to seek out the expertise of a real pro and share it with all of you. Weber Grill Master, Kevin Kolman, is back on the show this week with tips for grilling the best burger, cooking wild turkeys over charcoal, a look at grills and accessories you’ll want to check out, and so much more. He’ll kick everything off with an American favorite, the hamburger. I’ve never met a person that dislikes a good hamburger. Everyone has their own unique take on burgers, but Kevin will walk us through his delicious rendition of the Bacon Cheeseburger with a 5-step process that can be applied to any burger recipe. Then, he’ll hand out tips for grilling a whole wild turkey over charcoal. Finally, he’ll talk grills and accessories and highlight a variety of grills that are sure to fit your personal needs, whether you are a charcoal or gas grilling fanatic. Don’t miss it, it’s going to be fun!
