There is a fresh crop of new guns and gear on the market for 2017, and The Revolution with Jim and Trav presented by Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel, World Fishing Network and MyOutdoorTV, is your go to source for all the nitty gritty. Tune in as we take a look at home and personal defense guns and loads, concealed carry, suppressors, the Hearing Protection Act and much more. This week's expert panel includes: Kyle Lamb of Viking Chronicles, Michael Bane from The Best Defense and Shooting Gallery and Raised Hunting's David Holder.
Michael Bane is a firearms expert, but maybe more importantly an educator. Through his shows, The Best Defense and Shooting Gallery on Outdoor Channel, viewers have access to Michael’s expertise when it comes to all things firearms and self-defense. Michael joins Jim and Trav and starts with a humbling story about how his show has saved lives. “A guy came up to me at SHOT and he had tears in his eyes. He said, my family wants to thank you. I watch The Best Defense. I was carjacked, those guys are in jail and I’m alive solely because of what you teach in that program.” Michael says there is no greater honor than to know that he has been able to reach and help people with his television series.
Michael will then talk with Jim and Trav about the Hearing Protection Act. The purchase of a suppressor, under current law, means buyers have to navigate red tape, pay a transfer tax and be prepared for a substantial wait time before they are actually able to acquire the suppressor they buy. However, the introduction of H.R. 367, the Hearing Protection Act (HPA), if approved, could change that process drastically. “The Hearing Protection Act is something that should be done. A silencer is no different than safety glasses. It’s a piece of safety equipment,” says Michael. However, after talking with people in the industry and those at the American Suppressor Association, there is doubt that the HPA will clear this year. So, what does that mean for the consumer? If you are waiting on the HPA to take away the $200 fee and clear the red tape, you may be waiting awhile. If you really want a suppressor, Michael says to pay the fee and jump through the hoops. How is this bill impacting suppressor companies and the future prices of suppressors? Tune in to hear Michael’s take on this changing industry.
Like any other activity, hunting requires an investment. Hunters have to purchase the gear they will take afield. However, bow hunters may be feeling the pinch as a result of the rising cost of archery equipment. David Holder of Raised Hunting joins Jim and Trav to talk about finding affordable archery equipment. David says that Bear Archery recognizes that for buyers, many times, the cost is just too high. In response, Bear is actively working to lower the price on higher end bows and offer other entry level bows at a far more affordable price point. David says he has used the Bear Cruzer at his Raised At Full Draw camps to introduce new shooters to archery. Although they may be entry level bows, they can also grow with a person to turn into a bow they can hunt with for several years – making the price far more affordable. There is also a market for used equipment. For a beginner, second hand bows can be a good place to start. David says they allow the shooter to purchase a bow for half the price of what it would cost new, while they figure out what they like and what fits them without making a massive investment. However, David says that affordability isn’t the only thing that is affecting participation in archery and the outdoors among youth. Technology – smart phones, iPads, television – all play a role in kids turning away from the outdoors. As someone who has raised two sons in the outdoors, David believes in this way of life and the way it shapes a person. That is probably why he is so passionate about their “Raised At Full Draw” youth bow hunting camps. David says his goal is to encourage kids, their parents and anyone involved with them, to get outside and start shooting a bow. The “Raised At Full Draw” camps teach bow hunter education and a variety of skills in a 4-day, 3-night camp. Find out more by listening to the full interview!
Outdoorsmen and women have ushered in 2017 by attending a wave of trade shows and checking out the best new outdoor gear on the market. While there is no shortage of new firearms to choose from, Kyle Lamb, host of Viking Chronicles on Outdoor Channel, joins Jim and Trav this week to talk about the new P320 VTAC from Sig Sauer. Kyle spent more than 20 years in the service as a Sergeant Major in the United States Army and is now the President and Founder of Viking Tactics as well as a highly sought after military and law enforcement trainer, conducting leadership and weapons training courses around the globe. His firearm expertise has given him the opportunity to work with developers to customize the P320 VTAC to look and function exactly how he wants it to. A dark earth colored stainless steel slide with lightening cuts, an X-Frame, VTAC high-visibility sights, a straight trigger that breaks at 90 degrees – get an inside look at all of the features of the new P320 VTAC from Sig Sauer. Then, stay tuned as Kyle talks about his preferred method of carrying and what can happen if you don’t use a holster.
