What can I do to make a difference?
FOR ANGLERS:
- Leave the Lead Behind – Choose environmentally-friendly tackle and weights, and gut your own tackle box of any older lead-based fishing items.
- Take It All With You – All that extra fishing line?Pick it up and take it back with you. That small fry you caught rotting on the rocks next to you? Take it back with you or throw it back in. Thinking of leaving that plastic bag there? Don't.
It's common sense, but it's often ignored -- Leave it better than how you left it.
- Respect the Rules – Protect populations, species and food chains by following local laws, limits and restrictions. They're not there just to make your life difficult as an angler, they're there to make sure you have fish to catch in the future.
- Get Involved – From Trout Unlimited to National Hunting and Fishing Day, there are numerous ways in which you can support local, regional and national efforts to promote the sport and protect the surroundings.
FOR HUNTERS:
- Stay Local – Try reducing your impact by keeping your trophy quests close-to-home.
- Report Illegal Dumping – You see dumping on your journeys, don't let it go. Make notes, remember where it is, and report it. If everyone lets illegal dumping continue, we won't have much scenery left.
- Leave It Better Than You Left It – We're not just talking packing in and packing out plastic bags and aluminum cans here. From animal entrails to obeying the land laws of wherever you may be visiting, always leave it better than you left it.
- Join a Conservation Group – From the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation(RMEF) and Safari Club International(SCI) to the International Hunter Education Association(IHEA), there are organizations out there that have programs and causes that not only meet your needs, but also really need your support.
