Optional yet useful, three extra items:
Raingear: Other than missing a shot,
nothing's worse than getting soaked and having to take everything out of your
turkey vest when you get home and dry it all out. A set of camo raingear —
poncho or jacket and pants — will prevent this. Think lightweight.
Small catch-all bag: A sealable plastic bag is handy for
band-aids, granola bar, and a pen or pencilfor filling out
your field tag — you did purchase a new hunting license and tag? Other items
could include extra rubber bands to prevent your box call from squawking and a
short piece of stout cord for use as a turkey tote.
Hearing enhancement: If you've noticed
the turkey woods growing quieter in recent years, don't forget your hearing
enhancement. I now hunt with a set of Walker's Game Ear headphones, and have
found I can hear turkeys at two to three times the distance of my normal
