It’s that time of year again, where anglers dare to enter their cobweb infested garages and begin to knock off the layers of dust from their rods. They commence the tireless process of opening their tackle boxes, organizing their spinners, and mentally preparing themselves for months of long days spent casting and praying for hookups. So, this week on The Revolution with Jim and Trav presented by Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel, World Fishing Network and MyOutdoorTV, it's Spring Break: The Fishing Edition. As spring rolls in and the fishing action heats up, we've come prepared with a detailed multi-species game plan that will give you the how-to’s for efficiently and effectively targeting a variety of species. Joining us will be JP DeRose of Breaking Boundaries, Jon Baker from Jon Baker’s Guide 4 Adventure, host of Shootout Lane Jerry Miculek, CatDaddy and our very own Mrs. Bunny.
Widely known as “The Greatest Shooter of All Time”, Jerry Miculek is one of the best all-around shooters and fastest shooters, ever. His 30+ year shooting career speaks for itself with fifty-two National titles, forty-five World titles, and many more accolades. Jerry joins The Revolution this week to talk competitive shooting and about the new season of Shootout Lane on Outdoor Channel premiering March 29th. Jerry’s skill set isn’t specific to just one discipline, he can shoot anything with a trigger. However, in order to become the shooter he is today, he had to work for it. “You can teach yourself to be a good shooter. When I first started, it was real ugly. You would’ve seen me and said, why are you wasting ammo?” Jerry says the secret to his success has always been going to the range with the thought of improving what he has done, to challenge his past experiences, in order to become better. Tune in to find out how much time he spends at the range, why he feels it’s important to keep reinventing himself, more about his history in competitive shooting and about some of his favorite titles and records.
Fishing Alaska is a bucket list item for almost any sportsman, where the opportunities and variety of fish seem endless. Tune in as Jon Baker of Jon Baker’s Guide 4 Adventure on Sportsman Channel joins Jim and Trav to talk spring fishing. Jon says they are chasing open water as the ice starts to come off and he has found some great lakes with good lake trout fishing in early spring. So, what should you be using to target these fish? Jon will discuss what flies get their attention and where you should focus your efforts for success. He’ll also tell us what to pack if you are headed to Alaska in order to be prepared for the fickle weather you may experience and why rain gear is a must.
Spring is a transitional time and right now JP DeRose of Breaking Boundaries on World Fishing Network says that anglers, depending on their location, can probably find fish in all three stages – pre-spawn, spawn and post-spawn. “Spawning all depends on water temperature and you need that water temperature to start creeping into the 60’s, the low 60’s and have it cycling somewhere around a full moon – this is a great bet to start targeting those shallow moving-in largemouth.” JP will explain how to get largemouths off their beds and how to target big females without hooking up with the more aggressive and smaller males first. He’ll also talk location and how to find largemouths in transit to their spawning destinations and fish them along the way. He’ll then dish on the new budget friendly but high performing Exage Bass Tournament Ready rods from Shimano that he’ll be putting to the test this weekend. Tune in!
