BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. -- The sound is hard to describe, but it's sweet music to trout fishermen, especially those who fish Southern California's Big Bear Lake with John Cantrell.

The owner of Cantrell Guide Service calls the noise from lead core line zipping out of a reel "music to my ears." It signals that a fat rainbow trout is on the other end. On a recent outing, the melody was heard often, and customers learned of its joys and how to properly respond.
